Description:

The Breck Memorial Garden on Oak Park Commons recalls the time when plant nurseries flourished in the Oak Square neighborhood. The plaque marks the garden and commemorates one of the local nurserymen, Joseph Breck (1794-1873), who was a founder of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and its eighth president. The Breck Seed Catalogue, first published in 1818, and Breck’s writings on farming and gardening were instrumental in forwarding these arts in the United States. The plaque was designed by Kate Burke and installed in 1990.
