Description:

The Brighton Soldiers Monument is a Civil War memorial in Evergreen Cemetery: a truncated pyramid supports a granite shaft that carries an eagle at its top.  Erected in 1865, the monument commemorates “the patriotic and brave volunteers of Brighton whose lives were sacrificed in defence of liberty and the Union during the Great Rebellion.” Twenty five men are listed in the memorial field with the verse “How sleep the brave who sink to rest by all their country’s wishes blest.”
