Description:

Family Group celebrates the bond between grandparents and their grandchildren, the importance of family, and its continuance over time. Grandfather and grandmother figures hold out their arms to a granddaughter who runs to meet them. Their slightly younger grandson, off to the grandparents’ right, hurries to meet them too. The four life-size bronze figures are the work of Nick Edmonds. He created the final models for the bronze casting by a highly unusual process: he carved them in wood. Traces of Edmonds’s wood-working tools may be seen in the bronze. The group was installed in Veronica Smith Senior Center Park in 1989. It was funded by the Edward Ingersoll Browne Trust Fund of the City of Boston.
