Description:

Private Frederick J. Carey, Company D, 163rd Infantry Regiment, 23rd Infantry Division was killed in action on September 19, 1919.  A group of his East Boston friends and neighbors named a scrap of ground where Paris Street meets Bennington Street, “Carey Square,” and formed an association that erected a granite obelisk in Carey’s memory in 1922. The obelisk carries a bronze plaque.
