Description:
This version of Leviathan is woven from welded steel. It descends an outdoor stairway at the World Trade Center like a giant Slinky, its meshwork construction giving it both an airy look and the translucent menace of a giant jellyfish. At the bottom of the stairs it rears its pointy, pleated head twenty-five feet into the air, while the rest of its body trails a hundred feet behind it, seemingly undulating in and out of the sea as it comes down the stairs. The marvelous beast was created by the sculptor, Wendy Ross. It was installed in 1999.
