Description:
Our Garden is a community/school garden whose plots center on a concrete space that has been reconceived to make it a neighborhood sitting area and, when required, an outdoor classroom. The space is now adorned with eight concrete benches whose seats are covered in colorful mosaic images of garden fruits and vegetables, and in a nod to the garden’s portside location, the image of a tugboat. The mosaics’ subjects were suggested by youth from the Umana Middle School and the Environmental Chelsea Creek Crew (E3C). The designs were executed by the architect/artist, Gretchen Schneider. The benches were installed in 2010.
